Nicholas County (0-1) drops season opener vs Lewis County

What should have been an easy win for the Bluejackets became a game marred by blown coverages and "what ifs".  Nicholas dropped their season opener 33-30 on August 19th in Carlisle after leading the entire game, and being up 30-19 with three minutes remaining.  We simply blew this one. Lewis Co couldnt sustain a drive all night. The only way they moved the ball were big plays.
Nicholas was up 12-0 with :5 to go in the first half and driving.  A 25 yard TD pass was called back on a penalty that I have still not had explained to me.  It was some sort of offensive penalty that allowed the play to be run before calling it back.  However, the refs allowed the five seconds to run off and end the half.  There isnt a ten second run down rule like there is in college with offensive holding.... so I have no idea what the call was.  Regardless, it remained 12-0 at half.

Caleb Pope runs back the opening kick in the 2nd half, but we miss the ensuing 2 pt conversion, 18-0 Jackets. Then, the big plays for Lewis County started. One long pass play and one long run makes it 18-12.  Nicholas and Lewis trade scores (Lewis again scoring on a long run), 24-19. The score reamins the same until Nicholas gets a turnover late in the fourth and quickly punches it in to make it 30-19 with 3:10 left on the clock. The ensuing Lewis County drive results in another blown coverage and the Lions score on a 50 yard pass. Two or three plays into Nicholas' next drive, and about 1:30 left on the clock, the ball squirts out and falls directly into a Lewis Co player's hands, who runs it back 40 yards for the game winning TD.
Terrible loss for the Jackets. We should be 1-0.  Nicholas County looks to rebound this Friday night vs rival Fleming County in Carlisle.  The Jackets defeated the Panthers last season 28-20, giving them their first win over Fleming since 1999 and their first win in Fleminsburg in God knows how long.
